Midsummer's Mural on NPR

Today I turned on the car radio to NPR and heard my name. In fact it was about a one minute reading of a letter from Mike Giron. The program was The Story and the topic was the employment problems people have had and what they have done in their lives to get to a better place. Mike wrote about how he had lost his teaching position due to the elimination of an art department. He wrote about his finding subcontracting work with A Midsummer's Mural and Richard Harrison and finding mural projects all over the city of Omaha including taking graffiti prone walls in struggling areas of town, finding neighborhood associations and corporations and government grants to back them and to create beautiful results. Scroll down to Avanza blog post or click on our public art tab to see what he's talking about. Mike told about our vision of helping transform corridors such as Leavenworth St. into art rich areas and thereby helping the businesses and residents of those areas to advance their renewal visions. On a personal level Mike feels like the lemons of his job loss worked out to be full of opportunity to connect with his passions in a new way. I too am happy that Mike has been able to help me on so many projects. he is an extremely talented and compassionate person.

It was strange and wonderful to hear about something so close to home on a car radio driving to my workshop but pretty cool. The letter reading might even get us some publicity!

I may try to put a link to it soon but the podcast won't be published until tomorrow.
